Hounslow Heritage Guides Celebrate 25 Years

Andrea Cameron celebrates with guiding colleagues

“How time flies when exploring the Borough’s rich history.  It hardly seems possible that it was 25 years ago that the first intrepid newly trained Hounslow Heritage Guides embarked on their first tours at the riverside areas of Brentford, Isleworth and Chiswick, a concept inspired by the then Hounslow Local Studies Librarian Andrea Cameron who, although now retired from that role, is still the guides’ active President.  Over the years the guides have gained new recruits, replacing some who for a variety of reasons have fallen by the wayside, embarked on new ventures such as Magical History tours of the Borough by coach, held various Open Days with exhibitions and talks spreading the word about the historic borough, and widened the scope of occasional tours to encompass Strand-on-the Green, Hanworth, Bedfont, Feltham, Hounslow Heath and Turnham Green.  And also added a variety of different themed tours at the riverside haunts regularly explored from June to October each season”.
