Hounslow Council’s Library Service are delighted to welcome author and award-winning sculptor Anthony Padgett to Isleworth Library to acknowledge his recent donation to the library of a bust of Vincent Van Gogh.

Residents will be able to meet sculptor Anthony Padgett on Saturday, 16 March at 11am at Isleworth Library, Twickenham Road, Isleworth TW7 7EU

The bust is part of Anthony Padgett’s recent project “A Year With Vincent Van Gogh“.  During the year Anthony Padgett created updated versions of sixty-seven of Van Gogh’s works as well as a number of contemporary artworks.

As part of his project busts of Van Gogh have been donated to locations across Europe associated with Van Gogh’s life, including Isleworth. The donation of a bust of Van Gogh has been made to Isleworth Library because it stands opposite Holme Court House, where Van Gogh spent six months during 1876, living and teaching at a boys’ school there.

The bust of Van Gogh that has been presented to Isleworth Library and is made of cold cast powdered metal in a resin matrix with a steel/aluminium finish.

The display case at Isleworth Library also contains two other Victorian busts by local sculptor Henry George May, of John Farnell the Isleworth brewer and benefactor; and of Justice Haliburton of Gordon House, Isleworth, a Canadian jurist who retired to England and was the author of the popular ‘Sam Slick’ stories.

Both May’s busts have long needed restoration and Anthony has agreed to carry out restoration during his visit to Isleworth.

Councillor Sue Sampson, Cabinet Member for Leisure Services, Hounslow Council, said: “This generous gift from Anthony Padgett is just wonderful, what a fantastic way to share history with borough residents and visitors.

“I would also like to thank The Isleworth Society, The Hounslow Heritage Guides and The Hounslow and District History Society for co-funding Anthony’s fantastic restoration work on the Isleworth busts.”
